OMG, I just turned 40! Crazy, right? Every year of life, I’ve learned, I’ve grown and I don’t intend to stop now! But turning 40 has also encouraged me to take a few moments to reflect and think about what I know now that I wished I’d know earlier. And since I’m now 40, I came up with 40 things I’d like to share with you.

  1. Wait 3 full days before responding to anything that leaves you angry, hurt, or emotionally charged in a negative way. Distance gives clarity.
  2. Never talk bad about your husband to other people.
  3. It’s okay to walk alone, and sometimes you’ll have to.
  4. Get over what happened to you last year, 5 years ago, in Junior High, when you were 3 years old. It doesn’t define you. Be who you are NOW.
  5. Your mind is full of BS, and most of it you made up. If you’re going to make stuff up, might as well be how amazing you are!
  6. Never wear your PJs in public.
  7. “Knowledge is Power” is a load of crap. It’s only power if you USE IT. Action is where the real power is.
  8. Anyone can set goals and dream, and everyone will. Success comes from becoming obsessed with the process. Be a doer.
  9. No one learns from perfect people. Give me the broken people: those are the ones that can teach us how to overcome.
  10. Struggle is important to life. If you’re struggling now, you’re doing it right!
  11. It’s easy to criticize, but it doesn’t look good on anyone.
  12. Hurting people hurt people.
  13. Everyone has a story. Once you hear it, you can’t help but empathize.
  14. Humans are weird. Quit trying to understand WHY they do what they do and say what they say. They’re just weird.
  15. Anything worth having will be hard work.
  16. Never spend less than $150 on a hotel room. Anything less is never an enjoyable experience.
  17. Sometimes ideas and desires don’t make sense. Do it anyway.
  18. Get help. Pay people smarter than you to help you get where you want to go, including doctors, counselors, coaches, spiritual guides, nutritionists, etc.
  19. Having a plan is often a waste of time. Just freaking do it.
  20. Religion and Spirituality at two different things. Seek a spiritual connection.
  21. You can poison yourself with food and thoughts. You can also heal yourself with those same things.
  22. Take the freaking compliment.
  23. Experiences are where the joy is found.
  24. Gratitude is everything.
  25. Everyone has influence: good and bad. Some will channel that influence for good. Be one of them.
  26. Friends come and go, but your husband will always have you back…treat him exceptionally.
  27. Buy the expensive skincare 😉
  28. Time heals all things.
  29. Nothing is forever.
  30. Change is good.
  31. Baths are a necessity.
  32. You can be whoever the F you want!
  33. There’s no single right way to do anything, including diets, exercise, success, relationships. Do it your way.
  34. Only take advice from people you’d trade lives with.
  35. Stay in your own lane. Don’t worry what others are doing. Do it your way.
  36. We have all the time in the world.
  37. We have no time at all. Don’t waste a single minute.
  38. Manifestation is real. Learn it.
  39. We’re all connected…by one Universal Source. I don’t care what you call it, but we’re all the same.
  40. Your gut is always right.

No matter how old you are, there are life lessons you’ve learned along the way. I encourage you to take some time to reflect on what those are and come up with your list. Try for one for each year you’ve been alive – or go big and come up with more!
